Last night the 8th grade Bulldogs of BEMS prevailed over Zionsville Middle School 32-8. Despite some early struggles out of the gate once the Bulldogs settled in there was no turning back. The defense was the first to score as defensive linemen Mason Keifer, Corey Nelson, Jackson Sarjent, and Brian Snipes all converged on the Eagle offense in their own endzone resulting in a safety! That set the tone for the remainder of the evening with the Eagles not finding the endzone until the last play of the fourth quarter. Linebacker Hunter Childs also scored for the Brownsburg defense on a late “scoop and score” in the third quarter.
Offensively the Bulldogs had success in the run game with over 100 yards rushing for running backs Chance Crumedy and Quentin Russ thanks to an awesome effort up front by linemen Charlie Rushenberg, Hunter Childs, Mason Keifer, Jackson Sarjent, and Parker Lambert. Crumedy was able to find the endzone on two big rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Joey Spagnuolo connected with receiver Colin Kelly for the offense’s first touchdown of the game. Spagnuolo also completed a two point conversion late in the game to receiver Cohen Callahan. The Bulldog offense also saw contributions in the run game from receiver Quay Sumpter-Bey and Davin Pearson. Brownsburg East will face off against rival Avon South at home next week.
