Brownsburg East 8th Baseball took on rival Brownsburg West on the varsity field Tuesday, May 12, in front of a great crowd. It was a fun and exciting atmosphere as West jumped out to an early lead before the East offense came alive late. The Bulldogs scored 3 runs in the 5th inning and added 2 more in the 6th to pull away for a huge 7-3 win. The game ended with an outstanding defensive play from Parker Mattingly in the 7th inning. Mattingly tracked down a long fly ball in the gap near the warning track, making a fully extended catch for the first out, then fired to second base to double off the runner and end the game. Reid Pfledderer got the start on the mound and threw 4 innings, allowing just 1 earned run. Byron Young came on in relief and was dominant over the final 3 innings, allowing 0 runs on just 1 hit. At the plate, Byron Young went 2 for 2 with 2 doubles, 1 run, and 1 RBI. Korbin James finished 2 for 3 with a double, sacrifice bunt, 1 run, and 2 RBI. Brayden Dietz added a 2 for 3 performance, while James Caufield went 2 for 3 with a double and scored 2 runs. It was a great team win over a rival that will become classmates next year at Brownsburg High School.
